Azerbaijan Lawyers Association (ALA)

ALA was founded on 20 May 1997 and was officially registered on 15 February 2000. ALA whose president is Annagi Gadjibeyli has 19 co-founders and 81 members. Since 1999 ALA is a member of International League for Human Rights and since 2000 member of Legal Associations of States around Black Sea (LASBS). ALA participates in annual meetings of LASBS. On the last annual conference of the General Assembly held in Sinaya (Romania) it was decided to hold the next GA meeting in autumn 2003 in Baku under the organization of ALA. The main goals of ALA are to assist in building democratic jural state, in conducting judicial-legal reforms, in strengthening legality and rule of law and in increasing legal awareness of the population.



There are five main activity directions in the programs of ALA:

1. Legal enlightenment of the population;

2. Assistance in modernization of the legislation, state building, establishment of the base of judicial-legal reforms and their realization;

3. Assistance in ensuring rights and freedoms of citizens;

4. Assistance to NGOs and independent media;

5. Creation of condition for active professional and social activity of the members, the increase professional level of lawyers working in different fields of law and law students, assist in establishing contacts among lawyers.

- Project on "Explanation and propaganda of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms"

- Project on "Explanation and propaganda of the civil Code"

- Project on "Situation around the legislation on NGOs"

- Forum of advocates

- Project on "Establishment of regional center to provide free legal assistance to municipalities"
